Episode 014 - Ms US World, Ashley Ingram
Saturday Dec 01, 2018
Saturday Dec 01, 2018
First things first, in the intro I mention a Go Fund Me for a local family that lost 3 young children this week. You can go here to find out more.
I grew up watching pageants, not because I wanted to. We had 3 channels and mom liked watching them. I never really got the whole purpose of them, I mean I knew they provided scholarships, entertainment, etc. however, it wasn't something that interested me at all. Later on in life we had a daughter and she isn't the girly girl type so entering her into something like this never entered the equation. My entire view of pageants is summed up with what I know from the Movie Miss Congeniality and reality tv.
The other day a news article came across my feed about a local woman who had won the national title of Ms. US World 2019. Her name is Ashley Ingram and she's from Sweetwater, TN. At first, I didn't think much of it. Later that day as people were talking about her, I thought; Hey, this would be a good chance for me to dive a little deeper and find out what is the attraction to pageants.
At the beginning of the podcast, I share the thought that I'm actually surprised that pageants are still a thing in today's era. I even ask if they aren't a bit degrading to women.

Today we visit the Philpott Farm in Englewood, TN. Our guest is Dr. Sarah Philpott. She earned her Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Tennessee. Sarah is one of those people that, when you hear her name spoken it's always is a positive light. She's a wife, business owner, and mother of three.
Sarah and her husband, like many, have also experienced pregnancy loss. Out of that experience, she began a project of reaching out to other women who had also experienced the same and that research resulted in her book, "Loved Baby". It's a 31 day devotional from a Christian perspective on dealing with the pain and grief associated with that.
We did record this in her home and her kids were there. So, in this podcast, you're going to hear them a lot. Which, is one of the things I love about this podcast.
You can find Sarah here:

I first became aware of my guest today by listening to a podcast that he was a guest on. During the podcast, he mentioned that he was from south-east Tennesse and when I Googled him I found he was from Madisonville, which is just up the road from Athens. I then found him on Facebook and sent him a message.
Today we met at a coffee shop in Sweetwater, TN and recorded this Podcast.

Thursday Oct 18, 2018
Today we sit down at The Beanery Uncorked in Athens, TN with a friend of mine from High School, Lauren Griffeth Trew. Lauren is a mother of two daughters and a wife of 26 years to her high school sweetheart, Scott. They just recently moved back to Athens and, well, she and I have a lot of catching up to do.
Currently, she is the Program Coordinator The Arts Center here in Athens and we talk about several of the things The Arts Center does here in the area. It truly is a great resource that several in the area need to be aware of.
Lauren also has a blog called: Counting Good Gifts. On her blog, she takes a picture a day and posts it as a practice of gratitude for the things in her life. You can also follow her on Instagram, @lgtrew.
As always, I had a lot of fun doing the podcast and I hope you enjoy this one. Don't forget to subscribe and tell your friends about it.
